Hairstyles 2015

I am a huge fan of experimenting with my hair, and I always find myself oohing and ahhing over gorgeous pastel colours and soft cuts on Instagram, but whether it's a splash of colour or a gorgeous braid, it's time to change up your hair for SS15.

Colour

Adding colour is always a fun way to change up your hair, pastels are a great and subtle way to switch up your look, as well as the classic ombré that I just LOVE.  I've experimented with many hair chalks, sprays, and a semi permanent pink colour, which looked amazing in the summer! Here are just a few of my fave brands:

1. L'Oreal Preference Wild Ombres, £6.99 boots.com
2. Label.m pink powder spray, £10.95 amazon.co.uk
3. Renbow Crazy Color in Candyfloss, £4 crazycolor.co.uk
4. Kevin Murphy COLOR.BUG in Neon, £9.95 kevinmurphystore.com

Braids

Braids are a quick and easy way to create a more casual boho look. There are many kinds of braids and styles that I adore, including half up half down, all up, a pony or even creating your very own hair headband! I often like to add a messy fish-tale plait with my skinny jeans and biker boots.

The constantly evolving pony-tail

This pony tail has been a favourite of mine for ages, and has continually shown up on many catwalks. I love its rough texture and creates fantastic volume. This pony will definitely keep its position as one of the best hairstyles for 2015, as it can be infinitely varied to suit every face shape and personal style!

For a stunning evening pony-tail, copy the extra-long bubble ponytail or take a leaf out of Victoria Beckham’s posh look-book and opt for a simple centre parting, with a straight pony-tail at the nape.

Cut

Colour and braids not enough for you? How about The Cut? There are so many ways you can change your hair style with a good cut, from a small trim to a fringe, my favourite is the lob, sported by Rosie Hunting-Whitely...it's so chic and just perfect for Summer!

What will you be doing this year to change up your look?  I'd love to know

Super grains 2015

These super grains are absolutely delicious, and work well with any dish! They are SUPER yummy and SUPER nutritious... What's not to like? I love to experiment my dishes, from risottos to  sushi.... Not forgetting my fave quinoa porridge, whole milk, lots of nuts, chia seeds and coconut.

Here is my guide to the must-have super grains 2015:

1. Amaranth- the fitness supergrain

What: Amaranth is a gluten-free grain that looks like couscous. It can be bought as seeds, ground into flour or added to a cereal. Why they’re a superfood: Amaranth is brilliant if you work out regularly as it is high in bone- strengthening calcium and muscle-building protein. Amaranth also contains the amino acid lysine, which is great for muscle growth and repair. How to use: Simmer in water or skimmed milk for 20-25 minutes to make a porridge-like hot cereal.

2. Buckwheat- the weight-loss supergrain

What: This is another seed, usually ground up into groats, a bit like small porridge oats, and is an ingredient in gluten-free breakfast cereals, cake and biscuits. Why it’s super: Buckwheat is high in protein and fibre. It also contains two disease-fighting polyphenols: rutin and quercetin. But the star ingredient is D-chiro-inositol, which helps to stabilise blood sugar. How to use it: Use the flour to make breads and muffins. I love adding buckwheat noodles to my chicken noodle soup...mmm.
3. Chia- the brain-boosting supergrain
What: Originating in Mexico, chia is a seed, not a grain, so it’s gluten-free. This means carbs without the bloat. And it’s a powerhouse of nutrition. Why it’s super: It’s high in omega-3 fats, which support brain function and hormone balance, and moisturise the skin. Chia is also high in fibre: eating chia daily can reduce blood pressure. How to use it: Stir a tablespoon of seeds into a smoothie, or add to homemade breads and muffins. I adore soaking my chia seeds in almond or coconut milk over night for a nutritious and wholesome chia pudding breakfast!

4. Freekeh- the high-energy supergrain

What: A Middle Eastern staple for centuries, it’s now being bigged up by both Yotam Ottolenghi and Jamie Oliver. It’s made from wheat harvested early, when still green. It’s then roasted to remove the husk. Why it’s super: Freekeh contains more fibre than brown rice and is full of B vitamins. Your body uses these to help metabolise carbs, fats and protein to produce energy. How to use it: Cook like rice and use as a stuffing, or sprinkle it raw into soup.

5. Quinoa- the anti ageing supergrain

What: Quinoa is actually a seed originally grown in Central and South America. The Aztecs cooked quinoa 4,000 years ago! Why it’s super: It has twice the protein content of rice and contains all 9 essential amino acids, important to make keratin for healthy, thick hair and collagen for youthful skin. Quinoa is a source of vitamin E, which can also protect against signs of skin ageing. How to use it: Boil or steam it like rice. Quinoa tabbouleh or  Asian quinoa stir-frys... Quinoa is so versatile!  I LOVE to snack on my homemade quinoa sushi, and my butternut squash risotto is just delicious!

7. Wheatberry- the celeb supergrain

What: Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow are wheatberry aficionados. Wheatberries are whole-wheat kernels- when ground down, they become wholemeal flour. Why they’re super: They contain the brain, germ and endosperm of the whole wheat kernel. They are high in fibre and energy-giving B vitamins. How to use: Sprinkle on a salad or add to home-made bread for extra crunch. They can be cooked and served as a side dish, like rice.

What's your fave supergrain? I would love to know what superfood recipes you love?

Sunday Style crush: Rosie Huntington Whitely

I think all of us are a tiny bit in love with Rosie Huntington-Whitely, are we not?  She always looks so elegant and classy, with her plumped up lips and lovely hair (not to mention her model body) she makes everything look FAB! Sometimes bohemian, sometimes casual, sometimes sexy, I would say Rosie dresses to suit her mood.

Boho came back with a bang last summer, and Rosie's wardrobe of floral maxidresses were matched with nothing more effortful than wavey hair and a chunky Laurence Dacade sandal. For winter, RHW added long boots, cosy jumpers, fedoras and a palette of autumnal greens, browns, reds and creams that complement her so well.

Rosie, who is the new face of cool denim brand, Paige, released new images on her Instagram feed captioned with #PROJECTINTHEWORKS. I have heard some rumours that her relationship with the brand is going deeper than just being the face of it, and it isn’t the first time that Rosie has taken the role as a designer, as she has already created beautiful lingiere and sleepwear for high street giants M&S. Please let this news be true!! I can't wait to get my hands a pair of Rosie jeans…

I LOVE Rosie's latest 2015 hairstyle! We all need to change our look once in a while, and this long bob definitely suits her. Announced in a snap via Instagram, Rosie debuted a new shorter 'do, next to George Northwood, celebrity hairstylist extraordinaire, who did the chop for her.
Although I could not bare to chop off my long locks, the long bob still has lots of volume, making it more full and bouncy, rather than sleek and serious. I am definitely loving her 'lob' (long bob) this year…I seriously cannot wait to see what wonderful styling tips Rosie has up her sleeve this year! What is your favourite hair trend for 2015? What do you think of Rosie's lob?

Coconut oil health and beauty benefits

Coconut oil is amazing! It is a miracle product which isn’t just used for cooking… from your hair to your skin, coconut oil can change your life for the better. It can significantly improve your health and beauty...what's not to like??

Many top food nutritionists and style icons have had a huge craze for the most popular 2014  superfood. Miranda Kerr, who models for Victoria’s Secret, attributes her blemish-free skin and glossy hair to the miracle oil: ‘I will not go a day without coconut oil. I personally take four tablespoons per day, either on my salads, in my cooking or in my cups of green tea'

Here are just some of the reasons why I ADORE coconut oil:
1) Get cooking
It’s a total superfood in the kitchen, and one of my absolute favourite beauty staple too. It is also rich in certain proteins, which are essential for cell repair, speeding up healing time, which helps to make your skin look fresher and more radiant. I use it all the time when I cook – I stir it into my favourite creamy coconut porridge and blend it into my smoothies for a boost of heart-healthy fats. I use it in stir-fry’s to add a rich flavour to the sautéed veggies, or cover my  roasted veggies – especially sweet potatoes – in it instead of olive oil for the same reason.

Raw coconut is one of the healthiest food you can find. Studies also show that the consumption of coconut oil is actually linked to a reduction in obesity and, in particular, stomach fat.
Here are some of my fave recipes:

  • Creamy coconut and cashew porridge:

  • Summer berry smoothie with coconut milk:

  • Coconut curry with sweet potato:

  • Raw Coconut and banana energy balls:

2)  Eye makeup remover that will also condition your lashes.
Yes, coconut oil even works on waterproof mascara! Put a little on a cotton ball and gently sweep it over your eyes, paying attention to your under-eyes as well. The oil does a great job breaking down waxy, inky eye makeup, and leaves the delicate area hydrated, too. This way not only will you remove all the makeup, but also you will condition and moisturise your eyelashes and eyebrows. Isn’t it perfect?!

3) Boosts immune system
Coconut Oil helps build up the immune system. It boosts it by providing the basis for creating monolaurin when it is digested. Monolaurin helps kill pathogens like bacteria, viruses, and fungi.

4) As a cheekbone highlighter
Nothing perks up a tired face like a little highlighter, but you don't need store-bought products to achieve the same effect. Simply sweep a small amount of coconut oil on top of makeup and leave it alone. It looks like your skin but glowier, which is why many natural makeup brands use it as a base ingredient in their formulas. If you're looking for a more portable option, try the cult favorite Living Luminizer by RMS Beauty, which has a coconut-oil base and light reflecting pigment.

5) Reduces heart disease
Coconut Oil is packed with saturated fats. Because of this, coconut oil reduces the risk of heart disease in women by increasing HDL. It also helps transform the LDL cholesterol into a benign subtype.

6) Moisturiser

Coconut oil is full of vitamin E, which encourages the growth and repair of our skin cells, protecting against aging and cracking of the skin and lips, while also making it beautifully smooth and soft. The oil also helps improve the symptoms of eczema and is easily absorbed by the skin.

7) Shaving cream

With healing and anti-bacterial properties, coconut oil makes an effective shaving cream that starts healing nicks and cuts almost as soon as they happen. Plus, legs get softened as you go!

8) Improves brain functions

Coconut Oil is known for improving your brain’s function. Coconut Oil is one of the best and cleanest fuels for energizing the brain. Coconut oil helps the brain recover and improves the condition of those with Alzheimer’s disease.
